Observation Task 9a: Activities in a specialist class

 

In the specialist class (e.g. ICT, PE, Islamic, Art, Music) observe the activities the learners are engaged in.  In your journal today write about these.

Focus:  Integration

Ask your MST which e.g. math and/or science concepts the children are learning at the moment. Find out how she helps them to understand these ideas. Ask about how language is part of this learning.

 

If you can, get a sample of any documentation of the science or maths curriculum you can add this to your TP portfolio.  It will give you an idea of the kind of concepts children at this level can understand and also the kind of activities they are engaged in.

Observation Task 7: Classroom management and teacher talk


Focus:  Classroom Management

Observe the teacher and complete the following table:

 

Beginning and ending the day
Punctuality at the beginning of the lesson
teacher come before the pupils , she always on time 
 She also begins her lesson on time and she leaves after they leave
Teacher’s response to those who are late. What does she say?
Ø She use positive reinforcement She tells them that it’s nice to be on time and not nice to be late.

Playground: they have a specific time for playing outside they already know it she just say line up play time and they go to play.
Inside class: she give them the instructions where they will go to the learning center or the circle .

She tells them line up and they go, she walks with them to the place they want to do the activity.

Some of them response immediately but some of them she need to tell them again because they are talking so they don’t listen 
 
 
Misbehavior: she just talk to them and punish them by put their names on yellow and if they stay to do wrong she put their names to red “sad face “
What was the learner doing?
: After the teacher put his name on red or yellow some of them feel sad and they become quit but some of them they don’t care.
 
 
 
How does the teacher stop the children at the end of an activity? What does she say? do?
She first tell them you have one mint to finish then she start to count till 10 to finish and clean their place then they start to clean up and show her their work
